Born in Athens, Greece, Nikki spent many years moving to different locations in her native land. This life on the move - that has greatly influenced her art - continued, when she called England her home for more than a decade, before eventually starting a new life chapter in the United States.
Navigating the interplay between abstraction and realism, Nikki weaves multiple layers and textures into her work - a nod to the different locations and cultures that she has lived among. She is using a variety of art media including oil paint, cold wax, charcoal, acrylics, collage and fine art photography to convey a sense of peaceful coexistence between movement and mood.
“Creating art is a compelling need that quietens my mind and helps me embrace the ephemeral. I work both intuitively and realistically - depending on mood, time and place - and I do not consider my artworks finished. I find open-ended inspiration in motion and in stillness, in my experiences as a two times immigrant and in the restorative powers of music, poetry and meditative silence. Art, to me, is a constant conversation between seemingly unrelated elements and an unconstrained reorganizing of reality to symbolize states of mind.” - Nikki Malandraki
Currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Nikki is always exploring art ideas and techniques while inviting her viewers to explore their own sensibilities.
